The New Social Horror Website and Your New Scare-At-Home Friday Update

Hello there, Horror Fans!

Last year we dropped off the posting map for a little while to work on bringing our new vision to life. We have re-vamped our meager beginnings to bring you bigger and better things in this new 2015 year and what a year it will be! The horror genre is continuing to cut its way into the popular culture spotlight through more than just the zombie-craze super highway. Monsters and killers are back on the loose and the Halloween haunting season is becoming bigger than it ever was before. Horror is the gory answer to the superhero hype and the sci-fi and fantasy rise. We’re not saying it’s better, because we love all the cool nerdy stuff that is happening in the world. Horror is just where our hearts are . . . when they are not being sacrificed, eaten, stabbed, or put in a box under the floor.

Soon you will get to know our contributors on the About Us page, learn more about what we have planned for our YouTube channel, upcoming horror events and conventions, movies and television shows, as well as other horror culture updates and content that we want to bring to dedicated fans.

With all that said, we bring you a little bit of what we are looking forward to this year with our first SCARE-AT-HOME FRIDAY update!

Scare-At-Home Friday

Every Friday, we hope to bring you updates that will be filled with what is upcoming with gaming, books, and other cool things you can do to put a little bit of horror into your weekends. Today we are looking at a few things we are looking forward to this year:

Games

H1Z1 (1/15/15)
While we’re not huge zombie fans, this is one of the few survival horror games that looks like it might actually be good. We’ll see when it comes out on Early Access.

The Order: 1886 (2/20/15)
Steampunk, werewolves, Victorian-Era… Yeah, this is going to be one hell of a game.

Books

The Deep by Nick Cutter (Now out!)
When you hear that horror master Stephen King has rolled out the red carpet for a fellow writer of the macabre, it must be good. We can’t wait to read this one.

Finders Keepers by Stephen King (6/2/15)
The second book in the Mr. Mercedes trilogy, we are looking forward to King’s continuing reign in the world of horror writing.

Right now, you can begin your weekend with this short film on Vimeo, HE TOOK HIS SKIN OFF FOR ME, based on a short story by Maria Hummer.

From Ben Aston’s official page, it reads, “In this twisted modern-day fairy tale, a man removes his own skin for the woman he loves, believing it’s what she wants him to do. And she does… at first. But his action soon proves to have dire consequences. Small things, things like stains. Things they can handle. But before long it becomes clear their relationship will never be the same again…” We watched this, most intrigued with the use of practical makeup and found it remarkable that Aston teamed up with makeup artist Colin Arthur (2001: A Space Odyssey, Conan the Barbarian, and The NeverEnding Story) to create their own SFX team to bring Hummer’s story to life.

You can see Aston’s other works on his Vimeo, and you can find Maria Hummer and her work on her website.
